The National Database and Registration Authority, abbreviated as Nadra, is Pakistan’s leading institution for the management and maintenance of a central database of its citizens. Nadra was established in 2000 and has played an important role in many aspects of Pakistan’s society. In the first place, Nadra is responsible for issuing computerised national identity cards, which are the primary form of identification for citizens.  In order to access public services, vote in elections and perform various administrative transactions, these cards are vital. In addition, Nadra is responsible for the registration of births, deaths, marriages and divorces to ensure accurate records are kept across the country.

The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) launched Pakistan Identity, sometimes referred to as Pak ID, as a ground-breaking project to transform the nation’s identity procedures.
